Uricase

Product No.

LT0110

Synonyms:

UOX, UOXP, URICASE, Urate oxidase, urate oxidase (pseudogene)

Description:

Urate oxidase also known as uricase, is an oxidase in the purine degradation metabolic pathway in organisms. It catalyzes the conversion of highly insoluble uric acid into 5-hydroxyisourate. Accumulation of uric acid causes liver/kidney damage or chronically causes gout.

Uricase widely exists in many species in nature, but the human uricase gene encodes 33 and 187 arginine codons with nonsense mutations to stop codons, so the human body cannot synthesize active uricase.
